I've just discovered that I can no longer edit my own posts! This means that my first and only attempt to get the formatting on my posts is going to be it...even if it doesn't do what I want it to do, and even if it comes out completely wrong, I can't fix it!

I've been here a while, and I'm not sure why the restriction, but without the ability to edit, I will no longer be able to reply to those massive posts that require a lot of finagling to get right. What gives? I can understand not being able to delete posts...but fixing them when they don't come out right? Why is this a privilege denied to me?

Not intentional. Not some kind of plot or conspiracy against you! Merely a bug. We've fixed it. Thanks for letting us know!

No....no actually I'm still unable to edit my own posts. There is still a red 'x' next to that privilege on my list of what I can and cannot do. I don't know what you fixed, but it didn't change anything for me. I still think it's a plot.

This is causing us some confusion. We are not aware of any list that tells you what you can and cannot do. At the end of each post, there are some options--Edit, Reply, Quote, Report, etc.--but if you do not have privileges to do something, the option simply does not appear.

Is it possible that the graphic did not download to your browser properly, and that what you were seeing is the placeholder graphic that your browser uses when a graphic is missing? If this is the case, you should still be able to edit your post; just click on the placeholder.

If this is the problem, you might be able to resolve it by clearing the cache on your browser.

There IS a list of privileges, but it's at the bottom of the screen when I'm looking at the response. This is a cut/paste of the list as it appears on my screen (sans the checkmarks and Xs):

You can start a new topic.
You can view topic.
You can reply to posts.
You cannot edit your posts.
You cannot delete your posts.
You cannot add new polls.
You can vote in polls.
You cannot attach files to posts.
You cannot post without approval.

So now the confusion is mine. How is it that you don't have this list on YOUR screen?
Without the approval to edit, I simply don't have the button that allows it.

This is what the list looks like at the bottom of my screen (sans the Xs and checkmarks to indicate privileges allowed):

You can start a new topic.
You can view topic.
You can reply to posts.
You cannot edit your posts.
You cannot delete your posts.
You cannot add new polls.
You can vote in polls.
You cannot attach files to posts.
You cannot post without approval.

How is it that you don't have this list at the bottom of YOUR screen? Now I'M confused.
It's located at the bottom of the screen below the list of discussions on my screen. Without an approval checkmark beside the one for editing my own posts, I will never have the button.

Oh, you mean at the bottom of the screen. We were reading your message to mean to the bottom of the posts.

Just to clarify: are you still having the problem in the Reasoned Debate area?

Yes...unless the edit button is someplace I cannot find it. Please tell me where I would find an edit button or something that would allow me to edit my posts.

All right, it appears that I can now edit my posts going forward, just not going back. I can't fix the prior posts that had glithes in them, but I could edit that last one, and I presume, this one.

It's very possible that the bugfix was not retroactive to pre-fix posts. We'll look into that.

In the meantime, if you'd PM a link to the message you'd like fixed, we can take care of that for you.

Thanks for helping us track down and squish these bugs!
