Feds Raid Feiger's Office
Author: Steven Shelton (12:41 pm)

Things just keep getting worse and worse for Geoffrey Fieger. After what appears to be a botched attempt to blackmail Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox, he is being investigated for violations of Michigan ethics rules for attorneys, and now the feds want in on the act: they are now claiming that he laundered money and made illegal contributions to the John Edwards presidential campaign in 2004. Feiger, in his usual style, is claiming it's all a conspiracy. The feds are out to get him. Cox is out to get him. The Oakland County prosecutor is out to get him. They're all in cahoots. All we need now is the Smoking Man and the Lone Gunmen and we'll be in business. What a strange turn of events for Feiger. This is a guy who is hands-down the best-known lawyer in the state, and possibly one of the most well-known attorneys in the country. At one point, ABC was in development of an Apprentice-style show with Feiger in the role of Donald Trump. He ran for governor in 1998, actually got the nomination, and then lost it, mostly because people can't stand the guy once they get to know him. (Although, in all fairness, some people apparently can't get enough of him; he has a fansite and I don't, so what's that say?) Could it be that maybe, just maybe, this isn't a conspiracy at all? Could it be thatassuming that Feiger is innocent of all charges (something on which I won't pass more judgment now than I have already)he gets investigated because he behaves in a way that makes people both suspicious and angry? |
